Clément Jacques-Vossen

Clément Jacques-Vossen embodies the very essence of "Belgitude".
Born in Flanders, raised in Wallonia, and now established in Brussels, he is perfectly bilingual and fully immerses himself in local folklore by actively participating in the Saint-Sébastien guild of Schaerbeek. This love for Belgian heritage instinctively shines through in his art.

His uniqueness lies in his utilization of traditional painting practices and iconography through a series of self-portraits. These works explore the different dimensions of his identity. Passionate about folklore and local traditions, Clément enjoys depicting these elements through personal and collective symbols, often adding a touch of humor and self-derision to his creations.

The viewer is transported into a fantastical world, where epic battles, mythological narratives, and Belgian folklore coexist. His works celebrate the cultural heritage of his country while offering a contemporary perspective. His artistic quest explores the links between past and present through a variety of mediums, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and performance.

Clément's atelier, located near the Sablon in Brussels, reflects his imagination. The walls are adorned with knights in battle, giants, unicorns, and other evocative scenes. These works, sometimes miniature and sometimes gigantic, depict a world rich in emotions, where the joys, sorrows, and triumphs of existence
intertwine.
